Tennessee Risk Management Trust Names Dr. Phillip Wallace As Administrator

Director of Stewart County Schools to Assume Role as TNRMT Trust Administrator

June 4th, 2014.

The Tennessee Risk Management Trust (TNRMT) has named Dr. Phillip Wallace as Trust Administrator. Wallace, a perennial figure in the state's education system, will retire as Director of Stewart County Schools this month and assume his new role with TNRMT in July.

"The Trust has a professional, friendly, and dedicated staff, said Wallace, who has dedicated more than 40 years to the Tennessee school system. "I'm honored to be a part of this outstanding team.

Wallace's primary functions will include serving as CEO and executing the policies of TNRMT. He also is charged with informing and advising the board regarding Trust activities, employing and directing staff members, and maintaining adequate financial records, just to name a few.

"Dr. Wallace is an approachable professional who has devoted his life to improving opportunities for young people through public education, said Dawn Robinson, Chairman for the TNRMT Board of Trustees. "He is passionate about the Trust and the invaluable service it provides to school systems and other government bodies in Tennessee. He is someone who our members respect, and we all look forward to his tenure.

Personal Experience with TNRMT

In 2005, Wallace experienced firsthand how TNRMT helps state educators when a 14-year-old student in his school district shot and killed a school bus driver. During the aftermath that followed, Wallace says the Trust was there every step of the way, offering assistance to everyone who was affected by the tragedy.

"The Trust assisted everyone in every way possible, said Wallace, who has heard many similar stories of how the Trust has helped during times of need. "And that's when I developed an affection for the Trust. You don't know just how important they are until you need them.

A Storied Career

Wallace began his career as a teacher and football and basketball coach in Stewart County in 1969. He then spent 14 years as the Principal of Dover Elementary School. And for the past 22 years, he has served as the Director of Schools for the Stewart County Board of Education. He has served as an adjunct professor at Christian Brothers University, Austin Peay State University, and Cumberland University.

Wallace, who was nominated for the role, will replace John Wilburn, who has been involved with TNRMT since 1987 and is retiring after serving as Trust Administrator for the past 10 years.

"It is difficult to replace the knowledge and experience that Mr. Wilburn offered to the success of our Trust, Robinson said. "We thank him for his sincere dedication and wish him a wonderful retirement.
